Summer 2019 Offerings:
We are excited to bring you many new opportunities this summer at SCC!
Ranging from introductory classes to a racing team, we have something for you to do, no matter your skill level!
Student sailors are under the supervision of a US Sailing Small Boat Level One or higher certified sailing instructor.
What you should bring to SCC:
- A Type 3 PFD (personal flotation device) must always be worn on the water, including the dock. SCC can supply PFD’s if necessary.
- Closed-toed shoes or dinghy boots must be worn at all times.
- Sailing gloves are recommended to prevent blisters.
- Sunscreen and bug spray is recommended.
- Sailors supply their own packed lunch and reusable water bottle.
May 27 – June 14
Middle school students are invited to join us for a three-week after-school sailing opportunity. This course meets three afternoons a week (Tues-Thurs) from 2:45pm to 4:45pm, for 9 sessions of fun and learning. We accommodate all skill levels, whether you want to learn how to sail, or already feel comfortable in a boat and just want to enjoy more time on the water.
Capacity: 10 spots
Beginner Learn-to-Sail Week

For an introduction to sailing, or a preparation for joining the high school team in the fall, consider our learn-to-sail course. This course runs 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, and provides basic instruction plus an overview of racing. Students will learn how to confidently crew or skipper a sailing dinghy, participate in enjoyable drills and adventure sails, and learn and practice the skills involved in sailboat racing.
Capacity: 16 spots
Race-Training Intensive Clinic
June 17 – June 28
CALLING ALL SOUTHERN MARYLAND YOUTH RACERS!
This clinic will run over two weeks of 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday instruction from June 17-28. This 10-day course will build on your current racing experience, introduce you to new boats, and prepare you for a summer of racing locally or in the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing (CBYRA) junior circuit. You will receive coaching in a variety of racing boats, including FJ’s, Lasers (both Standard and Radial rigs), 470’s and club 420’s using trapeze and spinnaker. To reserve your spot, send in your completed registration and down payment of $200 by May 1st. Wait-listed sailors who do not get a slot will be refunded their deposit. Full payment is due by May 24th.

SCC Summer Travel Race Team
variable fees, variable schedule
After our race clinic, the SCC race team is the next step to increasing your competition experience! If you want a chance to sail Lasers and club 420’s on a Bay-wide racing circuit against other junior racers, join us in traveling to events up and down the Chesapeake Bay. Race team members are not required to attend every regatta on the calendar; in fact, you may choose your own schedule throughout the summer! Fees are collected per regatta and vary based on the number of sailors traveling with us (starting at $65 for a single-day event). We have a limited number of boats to use; to claim your spot at any given regatta, turn in the combined regatta registration form with your $50 nonrefundable deposit PER regatta by May 1st. Full payment is required no later than two weeks prior to each regatta.
Note: you must have completed the Race-Intensive Clinic or have prior racing experience to join.
Capacity: 8 spots
Note: August regattas not yet reflected in schedule but will be added as the racing season continues.
