Boating Safety for Middle School Students
Run by St. Mary’s College of Maryland & the Sailing Center Chesapeake
Sponsored by the Spirit of America Foundation and
grants funded in part by the United States Coast Guard
The Spirit of America Program offers girls and boys coming out of sixth, seventh and eighth grades the opportunity to develop self-confidence, set goals, build social skills, practice self-control, and demonstrate responsible behavior – all while having a great time learning to operate small boats, canoes, kayaks, and sailboats! Tuition is free, but a non-refundable $40.00 application fee is required.
There will be three summer sessions offered with a maximum of 25 students per session. If chosen, students are expected to make a commitment and attend all five days. Transportation is NOT provided and students MUST be dropped off and picked up on time.

Open to students who will have completed the 6th, 7th, or 8th grades in 2016.

The links below provide information for the summer 2015 Spirit of America classes. Summer 2016 will be similar.
The application deadline for 2016 is scheduled for April 1st. Registration is limited. Openings will be filled on a first-to-register basis, after review of the application and $50 payment is made. Checks for the $50 application fee should be made to Sailing Center Chesapeake. The application fee will be refunded ONLY if your child is placed on a wait-list and no spots open up.

Registration process for Summer 2016 will be as follows (links will added when registration opens):
Step 1: Complete the Online Registration Form.
Step 2: Pay Membership and/or Term Fee by check or online here.
Step 3: Complete Registration Packet and mail to:

Make sure that you complete BOTH the online form (Step 1) AND the registration packet (Step 3). You are not registered until we receive your signed, paper copy of the registration packet and your $50 payment.
